Frequently Asked Questions

General FAQs

When will I get my order?

We will work quickly to ship your order as soon as possible. Once your order has shipped, you will receive an email with further information. Delivery times vary depending on your location.

What is cold-formed light gauge steel framing, and how does it differ from traditional wood framing?

Cold-formed (light gauge) steel framing uses high-strength galvanized steel sheets roll-formed into precise shapes such as studs, joists, and trusses at room temperature. Unlike wood framing, steel is non-combustible, termite-proof, dimensionally stable (no warping or shrinking), and 100% recyclable. It delivers faster erection, reduced waste, and superior performance in fire, seismic, and high-wind zones for residential, commercial, and custom projects.

What are the main benefits of choosing Redhead Steel over wood-based systems?
  • Speed: Trusses and frame kits are delivered and assembled in roughly half the time of traditional wood systems

  • Durability: Fire-resistant, mold-proof, rot-proof, and termite-proof

  • Sustainability: High recycled content, near-zero manufacturing waste, and fully recyclable at end of life

  • Cost Efficiency: Lower long-term maintenance, reduced labor time, and potential insurance savings

  • Precision: Factory-prefabricated components ensure exact fit and code compliance
Are your kits suitable for DIY installation, or do I need professionals?

Our kits are designed for professional installation by experienced contractors or framing crews. While some components are straightforward, proper engineering, safety, and code compliance require trained professionals. We provide detailed installation guides and can recommend qualified installers when available.

How do I get a custom quote for my project?

Submit your project details through our Get a Quote form, including project type, dimensions, location, and plans. We typically respond within 1–2 business days with preliminary pricing, specifications, and engineering options. For luxury estates or architect-led projects, providing drawings upfront helps speed up the process.

What building codes and certifications do your products meet?

Manufacturing

Our products are manufactured both locally and globally. We carefully select our manufacturing partners to ensure our products are high quality and a fair value.

All Redhead Steel kits, trusses, and frames are engineered to comply with:

  • International Building Code (IBC)
  • International Residential Code (IRC)
  • Applicable ASTM standards

Sealed engineering drawings are provided where required. Final site-specific approvals and permitting remain the responsibility of the buyer.

Trusses-Specific FAQs

How much faster are your cold-formed steel trusses compared to wood trusses?

Our automated roll-forming and prefabrication process typically delivers and installs steel trusses in about half the time of traditional wood trusses. This eliminates grading delays, moisture issues, and on-site cutting, allowing for faster framing schedules.

Are steel trusses stronger than wood trusses?

Yes. Cold-formed steel trusses are engineered for superior load-bearing capacity, fire resistance, and long-term durability. Steel does not warp, shrink, rot, or attract pests, and it maintains its strength in extreme weather and environmental conditions.

Can I use your trusses for residential, commercial, or long-span applications?

Absolutely. We manufacture roof and floor trusses for:

  • Single-family homes

  • Multi-family projects
  • Commercial buildings (offices, retail, warehouses)
  • Luxury estate homes

Custom long-span designs are available based on engineering requirements

Full Structure Frame Kits & Luxury Estates FAQs

Do you collaborate with architects on custom luxury estate framing?

Yes. We specialize in bespoke steel framing solutions for luxury estates and exclusive clientele. We work directly with architects and designers to engineer framing systems that integrate seamlessly with custom plans while meeting performance, sustainability, and structural goals.

What makes your frame kits suitable for luxury homes?

Our luxury framing kits feature:

  • Premium galvanized steel
  • Custom engineering for open spans and vaulted ceilings
  • Energy-efficient design compatibility
  • Long-term structural durability (50+ year lifespan)

These features support high-end architectural designs while enhancing long-term property value.

ADU Kits FAQs

Are your ADU kits compliant with local zoning and building codes?

Our prefab steel ADU kits meet national standards (IBC/IRC) and are designed for easy adaptation to local zoning and building requirements. Local jurisdictions may impose size limits, setbacks, or use restrictions. We provide documentation to support permitting, but local approvals remain the buyer’s responsibility.

How long does it take to build an ADU with your kit?

Most steel ADU projects reach a dried-in stage within 4–8 weeks after delivery, depending on site preparation, foundation work, and finishes. Professional crews may complete projects even faster compared to traditional wood construction.

Foldable / Mobile Outdoor Units FAQs

Are your mobile units suitable for off-grid or remote locations like hunting camps?

Yes. Our foldable and mobile steel units are engineered for rugged, remote environments. Optional upgrades include insulation packages, solar-ready preparation, window and door configurations, and custom layouts suitable for hunting camps, fishing cabins, and gun range structures.

How quick is setup for a foldable steel unit?

Most foldable steel units can be assembled in hours to a few days with a small crew and basic tools—significantly faster than traditional site-built cabins.
